Simple Tips for Lowering Your Fuel Expenses

Gas prices are predicted to remain high throughout 2021. To ease your financial pain at the pump, it's a good idea to take some simple measures to improve fuel-efficiency. Some of these measures are easy for drivers to take care of themselves, while others can be done quickly and affordably at the shop. At Integrity Auto Care, our local mechanics are experts at completing maintenance tasks that can improve gas mileage.

Easy Ways to Boost MPGs

During your day-to-day driving routine, there are some basic precautions you can take to minimize fuel waste. For one, you should make sure that you're driving with correct tire pressure. Generally, tire pressure needs to be somewhere between 30 and 35 psi. It's best to check your tire's specific pressure requirement and then inflate them accordingly. If you're driving with underinflated tires, then your engine will have to use more power to get your wheels to roll. Consequently, you could see a dip in MPGs. You should also drive with proper tire pressure so you don't increase the risk of a blowout occurring. Another easy way to prevent fuel from going to waste is to make sure your gas cap is always on tight. A loose or missing gas cap could allow fuel to evaporate before your engine gets the chance to run on it.

At our shop, we can conduct basic maintenance tasks that help to optimize gas mileage. Fuel filters should be replaced every 25,000 miles so that contaminants don't hurt fuel-efficiency and engine performance. Air filters should be changed out at 12,000 to 15,000 miles so that the proper quantity of air can arrive at the combustion chamber, which will prevent the engine from burning up additional fuel to compensate for a shortage of air. Other basic maintenance tasks, such as oil changes and spark plug replacement, can also help with getting the best gas mileage possible.
