What are common symptoms of an engine problem?
Because engine problems can become very expensive to fix, it's best to get to the shop at the first sign of trouble. This way, you'll have the greatest chance of nipping the problem in the bud. At Integrity Auto Care, we can accurately diagnose and flawlessly fix common engine problems. Come and see us at our nearby auto shop when you suspect that engine trouble is brewing.
The Check Engine Light Is On
An illuminated check engine light doesn't necessarily indicate that your engine is on the cusp of failure. Nevertheless, it's best to bring your vehicle to the shop for computerized diagnostics ASAP so that the issue can be identified and addressed before it gets worse and becomes more costly to repair.
Warning Signs of Engine Trouble
Strange sounds that come from your engine should be considered red flags and you'll want to figure out what exactly is causing them. If you hear a knocking sound, then you may have a dangerously low oil level. With insufficient lubrication, there's a substantial risk of major engine damage being caused by metal-on-metal contact. Low oil may also cause vibrations that stem from your engine.
Power loss is another serious concern. In old cars that have a ton of miles, a minor power loss isn't necessarily cause for alarm. But if out of nowhere your engine loses a lot of power, then you could be dealing with a serious issue such as worn-out pistons. Less serious problems can also cause power loss, and you'll want to identify them so that your engine performs optimally and bigger issues don't develop.
You should also keep an eye out for discolored exhaust smoke, which can give hints about underlying problems. Blue-tinted smoke is a sign of an oil leak. Black smoke suggests that an excessive amount of fuel is burning up. White smoke is a symptom of an internal coolant leak. If coolant is leaking, overheating could occur, which could lead to serious engine problems such as a cracked block. A high reading on your temperature gauge is another sign that your cooling system isn't working properly.
